The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

β€œIt feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. β€œThe attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
