Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
