Chelsea Boss Maresca Dismisses Man City Speculation as Pure Gossip

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has labelled fresh talk linking him with a move to Manchester City as nothing but hearsay.

The 45-year-old, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's right-hand man at the Etihad, addressed the ongoing speculation about his future.

Maresca, named Chelsea manager in the summer of 2024, has a contract that runs through the end of the decade, with a potential extra year option.

"It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca stated. "And at this moment, there is no time for such distractions."

He went on to explain, Primarily, because I have a contract here until 2029. And my attention, I said many times, is just about this club and I'm honoured to be here. But again, it's rumour. One week ago I was linked with a role in Italy with Juventus. So I ignore it because I know that is without foundation."

Chelsea, currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, are set to face Newcastle United this Saturday in a lunchtime fixture.

Strain After Previous Remarks

Maresca's most recent comments follow in the wake of he described a recent two-day spell as his "worst" since joining Chelsea.

Those original words had sparked widespread talk of a possible disagreement between the manager and the club's key decision-makers.

When asked if he had since spoken with the club's sporting directors, Maresca responded, "We are in the same facility, so we talk about different things. But about the post-Everton press conference, no."

The Italian however affirmed he would "absolutely" remain at the club next season and called on supporters to keep backing the team".

In more positive news, Maresca revealed that sidelined attackers Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could be back sooner than expected, potentially available for a fixture against Aston Villa on 27 December.

Perspective: Unresolved Tension

The perceived disconnect between Maresca and the club's hierarchy persists as an open wound that still cause concern.

While there has been no deepening of the situation in the open, there has equally been no apology forthcoming, creating the disagreement unresolved.

The mood during the manager's press conferences has become increasingly strained, raising fears it could undermine what has up to now been a promising start to the campaign.

Chelsea's on-field situation is positive: they are fourth in the league, have reached the Carabao Cup last four, and can achieve a favourable European draw with good results in their remaining games.
